Positive Place for Kids 2010

It just takes one to make a lasting difference in the life of a child.

At the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte we serve with one purpose: to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Youth of the Year LinkYour support contributes to creating and sustaining a sense of community within the Club that allows all young people to find both the nurturing and the structured support they need to grow and thrive.  Our campaign goal for 2010 is $385,000, with 83% of that directly supporting ongoing programming for our members.

You can join 54,000 full and part time professionals and 166,000 volunteers serving some 4.5 million young people through Club membership and community outreach.

Be Aware

Children in the United States face challenges and risks everyday:

  • Children represent the largest share of the population living in poverty,
  • Many poor children lack health insurance,
  • Youth living in poverty or with a single parent are at greater risk for dropping out,
  • There has been a steady rise in the proportion of children who are overwight,
  • More and more youth are having sex at an early age,
  • Studies show that juvenile violence peaks in the hour immediately following school,
  • Youth are exposed to more violence and other negative influences in the media.

But, the Boys and Girls Clubs are well and uniquely positioned to be strong advocates for youth and their holistic development, focusing on:

  • Character and leadership development
  • Education and career development
  • Health and life skills
  • The arts
  • Sports, fitness, and recreation

Working together, donors and the Clubs can give young people the tools and support they need to succeed in school, be good citizens, and lead healthy lives.
