BOBCATS STAY ACTIVE WITH BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF NC
Bobcats Sports & Entertainment (BSE) President and Chief Operating Officer Fred Whitfield unveiled today the Bobcats Stay Active program, presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC). More than 300 kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte will participate in the six-week program that features fitness sessions with Bobcats players, conditioning coaches and dance team members. Bobcats Stay Active fitness sessions will take place every Monday and Wednesday through April 1, and focus on aerobic exercise, footwork and agility, nutrition, and outdoor games. Program participants receive prizes for attendance every Wednesday, and each participant that attends 75% of the fitness sessions and completes fitness testing at the start and end of the program will be honored at a Bobcats home game in April.
"Wellness is an important issue in this community, and it starts with good exercise and diet habits,” said Whitfield. “With the help of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, we can teach kids how to develop those habits and have fun at the same time.”
“With North Carolina facing one of the highest childhood obesity rates in the country, helping kids become active is a key focus for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina,” said Ken Lerner, Vice President of Marketing at BCBSNC. “We believe the involvement and appeal of Bobcats players and staff within the Stay Active curriculum will help kids throughout Charlotte have a better understanding of the importance of consistent physical activity, healthy eating and maintaining a healthy weight."
