Volunteer
There are many ways to get involved with the Boys & Girls Clubs. Our programs depend on the support of volunteers. A contribution of your time is a great way to make a difference.
The steps to becoming a volunteer are:
- Contact a Club near you to find out what volunteer opportunities they have and where your time can make the biggest impact (see list below to get you started)
- Complete a volunteer application (Download to the right!)
- Conduct an interview with proper Club staff
- Pass a background check (applicants must consent to a background investigation to ensure member safety download consent form on the right)
- Begin making a difference in the lives of youth!
Some volunteer opportunities may include:
- Learning Centers
- Homework assistance, tutoring, book clubs, Web design, Internet surfing, programming Each day, kids come to our Clubs looking for assistance with homework and attention from an adult. Younger Club members always need someone with which to read; other Club members need help solving math problems or practicing spelling words. Club staff can not help each child individually, and need volunteers to help give youth the assistance and attention they deserve. Adult tutors are also needed to meet regularly with youth to help meet certain academic goals.
- Afterschool Games Room and Gym Activities
- Billiards, foosball, ping pong, board games, basketball, soccer, active games, playground Adults are often needed to teach sportsmanship and skills to youth in our games rooms and gymnasiums. Having additional adults in the games room means that our members are surrounded with positive role models. One-on-one interaction between youth and adults is an essential building block for healthy development of youth.
- Coaching
- Basketball, Flag football, baseball, volleyball, cheerleading, quickball, dodgeball Coaching takes a special person who cares about youth and who can model teamwork, sportsmanship, and the joy of being involved in a positive, healthy activity.
- Program Facilitators
- Torch Club (12–14 years), Keystone Club (14–18 years), Money Matters, SMART Moves, SMART Girls Youth who become comfortable with themselves will be able to succeed in life. Volunteers are needed to advise Boys & Girls Club members in the ways of good citizenship, teaching financial responsibility, gaining a positive self-image, and helping others. Volunteers for the above programs must be over 21, and must make a quarterly commitment to the group they facilitate to volunteer on a weekly basis.
- Special Skills
- Cooking, knitting, chess, art, dance, outdoors, environmental education, gardening Each of us has a special passion. Whether it’s fishing, scrapbooking, making bird houses, or something else... One-time demonstrations or weekly classes—you choose the topic and the format! Your hobby might be just the thing that clicks with a young person and enables them to find something they are good at doing.
- Club Maintenance
- Construction, painting, cleaning, grounds keeping, landscaping, murals Our Clubs are used by hundreds of kids daily, and our equipment and facilities get extreme use by active kids. If you have a skill or an interest in this area, your help can save the Club dollars better spent on providing activities for youth, and you can help create an environment where members feel comfortable and at home.
- Fundraising
- Special events, council member Volunteers in this arena work on special events and fundraising for the Clubs.
